5 things to consider when hiring a new employee
When hiring new employees, there are at least five different things to consider when looking for the ideal candidate to hire for your company. Each one of these things in and of itself can make a telling difference in your company should you not follow these tips. Each one is designed to help you to totally phase in a new hire with your established company. Now let’s talk about this list of five. There are more than five things to be considered when hiring a new employee, but these are the top five.
The first is to do a background check on the potential employee. While I realize that this may not be a very cost efficient way to handle things, it will save you a lot of grief later. This will give you some idea of what this employee is like due to his or her background. The second thing is to check employment and school dates. Why is this so important? Simply put, there is a lot of fraud going on with resumes and you really do not want to find out later that what an employee put down is false. You need to verify this information so that you can be satisfied with the potential employee.
The third thing is to verify his or her credentials. This is done for the same reason as number 3 was done. Sometimes people are not above inflating their worth with a falsified resume and credentials. If this check is done correctly, then you should be able to verify both the credentials and the employment and school dates. You don’t want to make it as if you think that they are lying, but as a safety net, you need to do this to protect both yourself and the business.
Fourth is to conduct a driving record on each one that you are thinking of hiring. While this may sound like a bit of mumbo jumbo, bear in mind that a driving record gives you some idea of how they operate a machine. This is especially true if the potential employee will be driving a company car or van. You really don’t want someone that has gotten their license suspended for drunk driving or taken due to illegal activities. You will not know this unless you pull their driving records. Again, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Our last topic of discussion is the fifth topic. You would be wise to screen ALL individuals. Why? It’s simple really. There are those people who you do not want as a part of your business such as slackers, no shows and other problems of this ilk. By screening each and every one that you are thinking of hiring, you will be better able to get the cream of the crop.
